About 45 minutes east of Monroe lies a tiny speck of a town known as Bering. This little town is nestled comfortably in the middle of the lower cascades. There are an amazing number of hikes found just east of Monroe, one of the more famous being Wallace Falls in Gold Bar. Some of these are extremely easy, like Barclay Lake. But some of the scenery is truly stunning. Of course there are more difficult hikes out there too. If you are looking for something fun to do, whether you have kids or not, you can find a fun day hike in our neighboring cascade mountians.
Last Saturday, the 21'st of July, I and a brave crew of fellow adventurer's went up to the top of Hedlee Pass. It was quite an amazing hike. Thankfully we were spared any rainfall during our hike, but there were low clouds snaking up the gully all day long. We would have moments were you could see everything clearly, but suddenly get fogged in.
As you can see from some of the pictures to the left, we are surrounded by mountains. The view is fantastic, there are plenty of great pictures to be taken up that way. If you have the time and the supplies you can turn this day hike into a couple nights of travel along some amazing ridges, lakes and peaks. You can even find a couple caves and old mines up that way.
